Our Frequently Asked Questions
Please see below a selection of frequently asked questions about OJ’s events which we provide for children and young adults who have autism, associated disorders or learning difficulties.
If you are unable to find the information you require please contact us via our contact form or contact details which are located on the home page.
Can siblings attend?
Yes, siblings can attend and are very welcome. All our events are for the whole family.
Can we bring our own food?
Yes, we understand that many of our children have their own strict preferences when it comes to food. There is a microwave available if you need to heat up any of your own food.
Is there food or drink available for me to buy?
We do provide a tuck shop in the main building where you sign in, with hot and cold drinks and a limited selection of tuck shop treats on offer, such as chocolate, Pringles and sweets.
What activities are available?
We provide safe indoor and outdoor areas for general play just for OJ’s families. The general public have no access to any of our services.
Indoors, we have a selection of individual rooms with a range of activities on offer eg. sensory rooms, interactive screen, Lego and Jigsaw play, bouncy castle (can be outside on good weather days), general toys. You are welcome to move around all areas at your leisure with your child/ren.
There are many safe outdoor areas where you can enjoy general running around and playing, exercise equipment, climbing frames, low rope course, safe walled garden area, swings, lots of outdoor play equipment, trampoline at ground level, wobble boards, large tarmac area.
We have the use of an indoor hall and are developing a range of activities throughout the day to run from this area that are included in the entry fee. These activities will consistently be run by OJ’s staff and you can drop in and take part whenever you like. We have started with a music and dance session for all ages at 1pm for 30 minutes.
We have recently purchased New Age Kurling and Sound Boccia to run in the hall. At time of writing it is April 2020 and we are all isolating at home so OJ’s events are on hold. When we get back up and running we will share videos and photos of these activities and advertise what times you can try these fun family activities.
What age does my child have to be?
We have different age groups attend and at the moment it is more children and young adults. If what we provide is right for your family member or child who has autism, associated disorders or learning difficulties then you are very welcome to come along and give us a go! Please just bear in mind that we do have younger ones attending as the whole family are welcome.
I am a carer, can I bring the child I look after?
Yes, absolutely. We are a safe place you can attend and we have PAs who work on the Direct Payment system for families, who attend with the child they are looking after.
We are a care agency, can we use your services?
Yes, that is fine. Again, we are a safe place you can attend with children who your carers are looking after.
I don’t live in Longridge or surrounding areas, can I still use your services?
Yes you can. If what we offer is right for your child or family member who has autism, associated disorders or learning difficulties then regardless of where you live, you are welcome to attend. If we can help you, we will be happy to see you at OJ’s.
